The Indians of Texas
by W.W.Newcomb, UT Press
This is the most widely used book on the subject. A must for any study or student of Texas Indians. It contains most of the major tribes. It is readable by average people, but has enough detail and depth to satisfy professional anthropologists. It was written in the late 50s so it does have some outdated material. We have learned a lot since then. It also sufferers from some minor unintentional racism with barbaric gardeners and savages.
If you only own one book on Texas Indians this should be it.
